In July 1985,
A little girl name “Honey Bee”, was born, and began her working life.
With the first newspaper of sex workers called “Patpong”.
Honey Bee or Pueng, a smart a-go-go dancer of Patpong, a thoughtful, a dreamer, and opinionist, she share her happiness and suffering with her co-workers in bars.
Honey Bee has gone through many important events which change her social views.
May uprising, a campaign for people’s constitution, social reform, elections, World Bank Conference, ADB (Asia Development Bank) conference, APEC summit, including mass arrest of street workers and homeless people around royal field, etc.
Honey Bee has worked under many government’s tourism policies, ‘Visit Thailand Years’, or ‘One Night in Bangkok’ scheme, Sex tourism, with tour group aome in big buses park in Patpong street, tourists walked in lines following a guide holding flag in the front.
‘Mail order bride’, Child Prostitution or we call ‘brothel raids era’. At the same time as the Thai government boycott Longman Dictionary. Then Trafficking era, cross-border worker, or so call entrapment era. And golden bath tub, etc.
Honey Bee was march in the front line of labour day march, as well as International Women’s day march.
Honey Bee never keep silent to the unjust law for women, including accept sex work as a ‘Job’, for sex workers can have social security. Stop prosecuted sex work, and decriminalize sex works.
Honey Bee is a leader of a family,
She is the hope of the family.
At the beginning, the stories of Honey Bee, was in cooperation wih a closed friend “Kee”, we think together and design the character together. Kee’s official name is Sujinda Aswachaicharn, but then after the May1992 uprising, she change her name to ‘Napas’.
Patpong Newspaper served the community for several years, then change name to EMPOWER, as we have reached to more sex workers communities, and later became “Bad Girls Newspaper”
Now at 38 years of Honey Bee, she has gone through young girls, to a woman, and now a matured woman.
She is still continue her life, amidst changes, and hope for better future.
A forever young ‘Honey Bee’ is still fighting for her better life in this wide world.
