Monday Mornings, I Whispered. is a series of encaustic photographs capturing tranquil sights and whispers from the trodden treks of Singapore’s wild.
Like shadows through leaves, light on water, the trickling of dew drops, the smell of dawn, the crackling of branches, the callings of birds, and cool, wet breeze… The walks are an immersive experience that one can only attempt to visually encapsulate.
Each piece features a unique approach with the encaustic medium, an ancient form of painting involving melted beewax, fused, brushed and beyond.
These images were initially created for Drongo Jukebox (drongojukebox.org), an ever-changing soundscape radio station website comprising wildlife sounds recorded in Singapore.
Ya Ting is an artist, photographer and video producer based in Singapore. Her works are often personal inquisitions into the human condition; and finding the relationship between that and subjects such as the philosophy of science, the ever changing landscape and its impact on the local ecology.
In a time when the strains of “staying home” take a great toll on us, DrongoJukebox hopes to ease ourears, hearts and minds. Listen, attune, and surrender to a more peaceful state of being amidst the soundsof nature.
