The challenge of true solitude is profound, and distilled meditation on a new phenomenon creeping into our Asian society.This series is inspired by “Kodokushi” or lonely deaths in Japan. With the fast-paced globalisation, this lonely elderly deaths are also rising in South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and now in Singapore. This series is dedicated to the individual who took the Kodokushi path, by choice or circumstance.
Michael Cu Fua (b. 1970, Philippines) is a Singaporean artist, his artistic philosophy is influenced by wabi-sabi, it is the acceptance of flaws in life and recognizing them as beautiful, it's also an appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes. Fua had solo exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Manila, and Singapore. His artworks are in private collections in Asia, Europe, and the USA.
